BAIT

When Murphy baited his line with a twenty-dollar gilt-framed mirror, Tully snorted. His bait was a quarter the cost, not nearly so fancy. Murphy caught a sleek, golden-haired beauty of a mermaid wife; Tully's had scabrous scales and irregular breasts.
"The better the bait, the better the luck." Murphy said.
